Act III, scene iv is one of the closest looks we get at Gertrude's character, so you may have to make some inferences to answer this TWO PART question. After her encounter with Hamlet, when he reads her the riot act, how/what is Gertrude feeling? What do you think she will do with her knowledge of her former husband's death?

ReplyDelete1. After her encounter with Hamlet, she thinks that Hamlet's gone insane because he killed Polonius and is talking to NOTHING. She also feels worry and at the same time shocked for her son because he's acting like this after Claudius became king.
ReplyDelete2. I think she won't believe in what Hamlet says cause of him talking to the late king that she didn't see. She probably might tell this to the king and ask for the truth while carrying a dagger behind her then if he tell the truth, he's gonna get stabbed by her and then after all of that if he lies to her, he'll bring Hamlet home or to England and tell Hamlet's friends to murder him.
1. Hamlet's Mom thinks that Hamlet has gone mad after he killed Polonius and talking to ghost. She is worried about him that his action might get him killed.
ReplyDelete2.She's not gonna believe him because he talking to literally nothing. Think she might take vengeance and go after him
1. After the encounter with Hamlet, she thinks he's gone crazy after killing Polonius and she's worried for him.
ReplyDelete2. I don't think she will believe him because he's going crazy talking to himself in desperation. I think she will want revenge.
1. The Queen is feeling guilty of everything Hamlet is saying to her. She's also thinking that Hamlet had become lunatic because he killed Polonius, thinking that it was King Claudius.
ReplyDelete2. I think she will try to kill her son. If she had something to do with the former husband's death then she'll have something to do with her son's death.
1. She thinks hamlet went loco after he killed polonius when he thought it was his uncle claduis & especially when he said he saw the ghost.
ReplyDelete2. She might try to do something who knows we sha'll find out further in the story.
1. She does want to help her son, but is too afraid of what she thinks Hamlet has become. she must of had a reason to be married by Claudius. Who knows maybe she is threaten by Claudius which he will harm Hamlet if she disobey him.
ReplyDelete2.She may want retribution if the queen did not knew of the murder of her husband was poison by Claudius, but if she does will she repent for her sin or make the same mistake again.
1. she feels as if him was going crazy after he killed Polonius and thought it was the kingshe also thought he went crazy when he said he spoke to the ghost.
ReplyDelete2 . I believe she might try to forgive him and continue on with their life & be wealthy

ReplyDelete1. The queen is surprised that hamlet is being so disrespectful with her. She is surprised that hamlet is telling her it's wrong that she cheated on her husband with his murderer. After he kills polonius she panickes. She thinks he's far gone and is afraid.
ReplyDelete2. She believes that hamlet is obviously hurt by her quick remarriage and knows that he is angry with his uncle because he usurped the crown from his father. She probably doesn't believe him when he says he's talking to the ghost of his father because she can't see it. She might tell the king about their conversation and the king will try to get rid of Hamlet by either sending him to England or getting laertes to kill him maybe.

ReplyDelete1. she feels that he started going crazy when he was talking to the ghost but went completely over the edge when he killed Polonius.
ReplyDelete2. she might avenge her husbands death ... yeah she might just do something drastic.
Hamlet is going insane after he killed Polonius. And she is starting worry about him.
ReplyDeleteShe will get vengeance for her husbands death.
1. The queen feels Hamlet has lost it because he questioned her about the death of the old king. Also because Hamlet killed Polonius. You'd have to be crazy to kill someone! She thinks he's going insane/crazy because Hamlet was the only one to see the ghost in the room. She thought he was talking to himself. She's worried about him now and probably keep a close eye on him.
ReplyDelete2. I think she will try to come up with a plan to kill Hamlet because if she had something to do with the death of her ex husband she might try to keep it a secret if Hamlet knows about what actually happened to his father.
1. Gertrude is feeling that Hamlet has gone insane because he has now killed polonius. What also helps her think this is that he was talking to the ghost that only he can see so she probably thinks he's insane.
ReplyDelete2. I think she will tell the king about what happen and then the king will approach Hamlet and they will battle it out and they both will end up dying. But also Gertrude might try to kill Hamlet before he gets to the king.
1. Gertrude is deeply worried about Hamlet because he became a lunatic apparently. She's also worried about his safety because he's in a dangerous situation.
ReplyDelete2. I think she will do nothing at all and be quiet about it. Usually the female characters in the story has not done anything major at all and back then Shakespeare didn't focus much on the female characters in the story except Romeo & Juliette.
so true.
Delete1)Gertrude says that the words hurt, like daggers. She says that Hamlet broke her heart in two, Hamlet revealing his feelings has made his Mother feel terrible and guilty because she can see her true self.
ReplyDelete2) I think Gertrude will obey what Hamlet wants due to guilt, so she will attempt to be righteous. Hamlet is jealous of Claudius and also mad at him, due to the Oedipus complex and the death of his Father. I believe that is the reason why Hamlet doesn't want his Mother to see Claudius, and I also believe that Hamlet will demand his Mother to help kill Claudius and she will help Hamlet to do so.
I think Gertrude is fearing for her life because Hamelt just killed polonius right in front of her and is taking to a ghost so he seems crazy in her eyes and he seems capable of doing anything even killing her for the slightest Reason so right now she could also be thinking how to respond so she could get out of this uncomfortable situation safely.
ReplyDeleteSo after that I think she is gong to pretend to belive everthing Hamlet is saying to Get out of the situation and after that go right to the king and say Hamlet is crazy and let him handle the situation.
1, She is really worried about Hamlet because she thinks he is going insane. She is also worried about Hamlets personal safety. 2, I think she might keep her distance with Hamlet but also keeping a close eye on him. I also think she is a little more hurt about the fact that she did remarry.
ReplyDelete#1). The Queen is feeling guilty because of what Hamlet spoke to her. She also thinks that Hamlet completely lost his mind because the ghost was in the room, she couldn't see it but he did. She also was shocked because Hamlet killed polonius.
ReplyDelete#2). In my opinion, I think she would try to make a plan on how to kill hamlet as revenge of killing polonius.
After her encounter with hamlet she thinks hamlets gone insane because he killed polo is and he's talking to a ghost.
ReplyDeleteI feel like she was probably pretending because she probably didn't want hamlet to kill her like how he killed polonius, she might go back to Claudius and plan something against hamlet-Lisa Tulo
- After the first encounter with Hamlet, Gertrude has this feeling inside of her that Hamlet is starting to become a lunatic person. After seeing Hamlet kill Polonius and talking to the ghost, she feels that Hamlet is losing himself and talking nonsense.
ReplyDelete- Though, there is a lack of forensic evidence to show how Gertrude actually knows that Claudius was the murderer of the previous king (most notably due to the fact that poor Hammy was talking to a ghost and Gertrude thinking he's going sane), Gertrude will foresee her surroundings when with Hammy because she see's him as a weird, mental, and crazy person talking nonsense but does know that the previous king died but doesn't believe it was by the hands of her now husband/king, Claudius
1.) Gertrude is feeling as though Hamlet ha gone insane because he killed Polonius out of being paranoid and she also thinks that he is talking to nothing when the ghost appears and talk to him.
ReplyDelete2.) I don't think she will believe anything that hamlet says because she thinks he is a lunatic but I think that she will tell king Claudius about what hamlet has said and did.
But also Gertrude might try to kill Hamlet before he gets to the king.azy because he was talking to "nothing" (the ghost)
2. I think that Gertrude will confront Claudius because she won't be able to handle her self. I also think she will end up killing hamlet on accident when she is actually trying to kill Claudius.
1: She's feeling like Hamlet has gone mad. He killed Polonious for no reason & she thinks he's talking to nothing but he's talking to the ghost.
ReplyDelete2:I don't think she'll really do anything because she doesn't want to go against her husband. Also, she most likely doesn't believe Hamlet since she thinks he's gone mad.
1. She Thinks hamlet is crazy because he killed Polonius thinking it was the king.
ReplyDelete2. I think doesn't believe it, but she will later start seeing a different kind of person in the king and consider that it may be true.
Gerturde is feeling kinda scared, she is worried about what Hamlet will do next. She thinks Hamlet is going crazy and he has no idea what to do with the guilt he feels. Things weren't supposed to turn out that way, and she thinks that Hamlet is taking this to far.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Gertrude will take Hamlets side, if she really loved king Hamlet she will stick out for him and help seek revenge. She might think Hamlet is going crazy and that he doesn't need to kill Clauidius but she might want to hear the other part of the story.
1.Gertrude thinks Hamlet has completely lost his mind for believing in something so unrealistic.
ReplyDelete2. Gertrude is probably in a state of shock, she is not sure who to believe even though it sounds like Hamlet is lying out of jealousy she would probably confront the former King or might try to find her own proof to see who is right.
1. Hamlet isn't crazy, he's just emotionally depressed about the truth.
ReplyDelete2. I believe love is the reasons behind his actions because he feels no love from his mother anymore. Not feeling the love of a mother is very heart breaking. Lack of love is what he's feeling; therefore he's feeling decieved.
3. Some kind of revenge to love? I believe not.
Lmao 😂 nice try Timmy
Deleteyeah, Timmy. Way to go! Way to respond to the wrong prompt!
Delete1- i think she will look at him as a total lunatic seeing that he did kill someone and it talking to a ghost father.
ReplyDelete2-i think that she might talk to her new husband and just ask him herself seeing that she feels like her son is crazy talking to ghosts and shi.
1. I feel Gertrude thinks hamlet is going nuts because of the foolishness he's been up to
ReplyDelete2. I think Gertrude and her husband will plan on getting rid of hamlet so they can live happily ever after
1. After her encounter with Hamlet I believe that she thinks something is wrong with him. She thinks he's insane because he killed Polonius and he's talking to the ghost that she can't see, so she thinks he's talking to the air or talking to nothing. Gertrude also hasn't been liking the way Hamlet's been acting since his father died and Claudius became the king so she might be a little on the scared side too.
ReplyDelete2. I think Gertrude will not and does not believe what Hamlet is saying because the only proof he has is the ghost and she can't see that. I also think she will tell the king what Hamlet has done and what he has told her, and talk to the king to see if it's actually true or is he really just insane. If the king comes clean and says that it is true I think either she will kill him herself or she will let Hamlet kill him.
