Writing Prompt C: To Be or Not To Be
In what may well be the most famous soliloquy of all times, Hamlet is struggling to justify his continued existence. Part of his argument against killing himself is that he doesn't know what happens after death. 1. What do you think happens after you die? 2. Is it more cowardly to live because you are afraid of the afterlife, or is it more cowardly to commit suicide? Explain your answer.
After death I imagine that there would be nothing. No heaven no hell. Just a lost soul roaming on earth.

I dont think there is any way to know what happens after death. There are many theories about the afterlife. Like heaven or hell but there is no proof to back that up.
ReplyDeleteI think it is more cowardly to commit suicide because it seems like the easiest way to relieve yourself of your problems but it actually only causes more problems for your loved ones after your dead.
It's pretty simple for me because I'm a christian I believe in hell and heaven do exist so if you do bad maybe hell if you do good maybe heaven but then again who am I to judge. I think its more cowardly to commit suicide because you're not thinking about nobody but yourself which is pretty selfish because it takes a big toll on your family. -Lisa T

ReplyDeleteYou choose you way of living which affect if you go to heaven or hell. I also say Earth is because sometimes you can't let go of this so call REALITY that our spirits stay on this Earth because they can't leave their love ones behind, don't want to leave Earth, or lost in your way to heaven. But I think I'll go to heaven and be able to be in a room that I'm able to be with everyone that I cherish the most.
I think committing suicide is more cowardly because when you live, you deal with problems & keep moving through them while conquering as what you can say and become stronger. If you commit suicide, you're afraid to deal with the problems. You can't take the pressure. It's more like you're running away from your problems than living and dealing with ALL YOUR PROBLEMS in the world to become a stronger and mature being or person or animal or what you want to be called. xD

DeleteAfter you die I think you become a spirit. I think your an angel your going to either heaven or hell. I can't really say because I'm alive and I don't know how it feels to die. But I do believe you become a spirit.
DeleteI think it's cowerdly to commit suicide because your just running away from your problems. Ending your life because things got rough. It's life , I think people should deal with it or get help not just kill yourself. Then when you overcome your problems you'll feel stress free and relieved that you did it. Killing myself personally just wouldn't be an option for me I'll find a way to fix whatever the issue is.
DeleteI personally believe that their is a heaven and hell because the thought seems interesting and I would like to explore them both if possible. The topic of suicide is a very touchy subject but i personally believe that ending your life is more cowardly because you get to end the problems you currently have in exchange for a possibly problem free existence but to live because a fear of death that just adds to all of your problems and to live with hell is less cowardly then living in hell because you have to accept your problems instead of letting them over power you

ReplyDeleteI think its more cowardly to commit suicide because in the bible it says its a sin but if god knows everything wouldnt he know that you were gonna comit a sin and wouldnt he stop you from doing it? and i also believe its cowardly because your ending your own life & you never know what God has in store for you.

When death happens, we are put in an internal slumber with no thoughts or any spirit influence. Eventually our rotten bodies become part of the carbon, nitrogen, etc. in the atmosphere and in the outer space. It's more cowardly to commit suicide because it's a weak exit in life and not a good solution.
ReplyDeleteAfter death you are where you belong, whether it's hell or heaven. You are where you are because of the choice you make that god sees. Hell is some where you will never want to be at so it's better to think before doing something that will break the laws. It's more cowardly to commit suicide because it's liking your giving up in every thing and run away or killing your self wouldn't make anything better. You rather live to be coward to see where your future will take you.
ReplyDeleteWhen you die you just stop existing, there is no soul going around heaven or hell, it's like you now are in a deep sleep, no dreams no nothing your body doesn't function anymore and you aren't able to wake up. That's how death is, a deep sleep and you stay asleep forever, your spirit doesn't go around scaring people because you are the spirit you are the soul, once you die everything goes with you.
ReplyDeleteI don't think staying a live to not face the afterlife it's a coward thing to do. I also think that a person has to be brave to commit suicide because you are taking away your life, you know there is people that care about you and you are wiling to hurt them, even though your not going to have a conscience after you die but you have a lot to lose. You have to think it twice to take away your life, that's a thing brave people will do.
People that stay alive because they are scared of the afterlife are not coward, these people are brave to. They have to go through all the pain during life, they choose that over letting everything go, because they know is worth it, life can be sad, but it can also be magnificent.
My thoughts on after death is when we die we will simply wake up. Not as who we are but someone, something else. Take for example a video game, when you die you start over. In theory what I'm trying to say is similar to that. When you die in this world you wake up in the ''Real World''. After all people do say Life is A Game and No Game, No Life.

No, you face your problems and you deal with them. And if you can't do that then yea, quit. But be labeled a quitter.

ReplyDeleteI've thought long and hard about this prompt and in my thoughts of the afterlife(life after death), I've come to a conclusion. The conclusion being, that there is NOTHING after you die. Once you've fallen into the grips of Death's piercing hand, there's nothing. There is no heaven nor no hell out there. When the time has come for us, it will take us. We go nowhere and lay to rot. There is no magic to take us anywhere. As a great and legendary lion once said "When we die, our bodies become the grass, and the antelope eat the grass. And so we are all connected in the great Circle of Life."(Mufasa). This is it, the circle of life!
(Now of course I may be really wrong, but I can wait like 60 or more years to see if I truly am wrong)
I believe that it's more cowardly to stay just because you're afraid of death. You'd live an unhealthy and disastrous life. What's the point of living if everything's total poop? Now, I can see why people would want to live through life and to live it to it's fullest. Yes, situations will hopefully get better as time rolls by, but is it truly worth it. You know nothing about what and when life hits you. Life's all about struggle and work. You'll work till the day you have nothing to live for or till you die. A lot of life isn't as joyful as you all think. Listen, I'm not saying that life totally sucks, but my friend, it's a lot of struggle.

In my opinion I think is more cowardly to commit suicide because the Bible say that shell not kill and I believe in the Bible so for this reason I think committing suicide is more cowardly.
I don't think anything happens after death. You're dead and there's nothing after that. I'd like to think everyone goes to a place that's special for each individual where they can be happy with who they care about most. That's not the case though so it probably sucks for people who are dead.
ReplyDeleteBoth of them are a miserable choice. I'd have to pick living. Living in fear of something that's going to come anyway is almost as bad as not living at all. Killing yourself before you can experience life is worse. There are some people who are so scared to live because of death and to afraid to kill themselves that they don't do anything. they just exist. Like a spirit in limbo not moving forward or moving backwards. That's just like being dead.
Hell sounds way more fun than Heaven. Peace is boring. Hell sounds like you have to fight to keep yourself and not become mindless. that sounds exciting. really really exciting.
I believe there is no afterlife once you die. You simply die and your existence is gone, I don't believe in lost souls nor hell and heaven. When you die every single thing of you dies with you. You simply lay and rot basically forever. There is no proof of the afterlife until then my own believe of no afterlife stands.
ReplyDeleteIt's more cowardly to commit suicide. Suicide is for the weak that don't have the guts to confront their own situations, life and struggles. Life is a gift and quitting is not an option but if you're going to commit suicide then so be it be known as a coward and a quitter.
I think that Hamlet is questioning his existance because of what is happening with him and Polonius.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is better to be afraid in the afterlife because i the long run if you commit suicide it can effect a lot of people like for example your teachers and family and also your friends as well and that will alter your life to.
What I think that happens after you die is either you go to heaven or a place where you are finally happy and have no worries or suffer. I also believe that you become a ghost because you haven't seen the light or you feel trapped. Also I think we all have a purpose on earth and after we finish our purpose we go to heaven and if not we stay on earth until we do.

There is always someone who has a worse situation than you do like for example, you so depressed because people make fun of you so you want to kill yourself but there are kids out there who don't have a family or even food. I think if they are making fun of you and you want to commit suicide you have to show them you can overcome those obstacles or whatever situation you have. Things like those make us who we are. You have to live life. I feel like people who commit suicide only think about themselves and don't consider the families feelings or close friends. There is always someone out there who loves you
I think nothing happens after you die. I think it's just a blank space where it's all black and there's nothing you could do. You don't go to heaven or hell or become an animal. I think it's cowardly to commit suicide because your taking the easy way to solve your problems and don't have the guts to solve them.

Me personally, I don't believe in a "heaven" or "hell". After death and in my own opinion, think your spirit or soul just flows around the location where you passed away. You won't be able to experience what happens after you die but research has it that after your death, you get about 20-30 seconds of flashback of what happened in your life before being fully dead.
ReplyDeleteBoth questions can be arguable but to commit suicide takes a lot of monkey balls to do and life isn't always the best thing sometimes. Though suicide can take a lot of balls to do, it's also very stupid because you're basically wasting away your life and your family members, peers, etc. will miss you dearly but, committing suicide also means you've had a terrible life, been through many struggles without anyone there to ever help you (even your own family), or just don't see the point in life at all. There are a huge vast amount of people who fear death because they really don't know what the afterlife is. Many think that the afterlife is going to either "heaven" or 'hell" but in reality, there really isn't one because they haven't experienced it yet. According to my understandings and point of view of this, those who think there's a "heaven" and "hell" shouldn't really be saying too much because let's face it, has anyone ever died then was revived from God or Jesus to be given a second chance in life and told everyone that there's a "heaven" and "hell"? Not really... so overall, both questions can be arguable here and this is just my opinion on things.

ReplyDeleteWhen you live in fear of death your plain old foolish however if you kill yourself thats just as cowardly becasue of the definition of coward means that you turn thr other way to any issue that falls apon you. So in the end both are just as bad.
After we die I believe we go to heaven and look after other people In Life. I believe its more cowardly to commute suicide when you kill your slefe you just runing away from something put your family and friends are left behind to suffer.

God will provide everything and anything for you after you die. I believe you will be able to watch over your loved ones on earth and be able to guide them through life as much as possible.

There are more reasons to live on earth than there is to take your own life. You don't know what happens after death so why be afraid of the afterlife? Enjoy life as much as you can.
I think that there may be a Heaven or Hell, but I also believe the Hindu ideology of reincarnation is interesting, based on your past life, you are reincarnated into an animal with the same soul. This is a very difficult, yet absorbing subject, that no one knows about yet, therefore no one can be wrong. All ideologies are not correct either, due to none being wrong.
ReplyDeleteI believe that suicide is more cowardly, due to suicide being a permanent solution to a temporary problem in life. Life has highs and lows, and if you embrace the low you are currently at all that happens is that you stay at that low, and you can never climb the treacherous mountain of happiness. Everyone says they work towards being happy but do they really? Trying to be happy is waking up looking forward to the day, seizing the day while it's there because it might not be there, all those people around you may not be there one day. Your problems are not always the most concerning, and to think that your problem(s) are so bad that you are "forced" to commit suicide, is selfish and no problem is ever worth taking your life away from others around you. Suicide is the most cowardly act there is.
To be honest I don't know what happens after you die so I am just going to go with what I been told what happens throw Church and that is you go to heaven or hell but like I said on in the start I honesty don't know.

DeleteIn my religion we belief that the afterlife would be hell or heaven. I'ts more cowardly when someone commit suicide because you are giving up in temporary situations. I think everyone can go through any situation and if you think you can, find help! Life its all about experiences, good ones and bad ones.You have to learn how to handle it, and if you learn how to handle it, you will have a successful life. Never give up! Find help if you think you can't.

I also think it's more cowardly to just kill yourself instead of just living your life knowing fully you're going to die. my reason is that weather you like it or not you were born you were given life and to be honest some don't even make it out the womb almost 15 million babies die a year from birth complications and to just throw that all away is just a waste
